LDoms features in Solaris
Solaris 10 11/06 (aka Update 3) is out. It includes some of the underlying infrastructure needed to enable LDoms support. I have received several comments about this, some asking where to get the rest of the software to enable LDoms, others wondering why we are being so secretive now that it's out. The bottom line is that the LDoms support in Solaris is necessary, but not sufficient, to enable LDoms; LDoms is not yet generally available.
Logical Domains is a platform feature that requires updates to the firmware, the OS, as well as installing a new LDom Manager unbundled package to fully enable. Our goal has been for Solaris 10 11/06 to be the base Solaris release supporting LDoms. The fact that this release precedes the actual General Availability of LDoms is simply indicative of the release schedules of the various components needed to enable LDoms functionality.
General Availability of LDoms is currently targeted for early Spring 2007.
