Forget modding and mash-ups. I 'witnessed' one of these personal fabricators at RoboNexus in San Jose this weekend (more images ...). It was beyond cool. It's basically a 3D printer - you can make things out of ABS - very complex, intricate things. All Kinkos will have these within the next 5 years (maybe more flexible versions able to work with other materials) and most homes within 20 (currently they cost about $25k and are pretty big).
