Sigh, last week I took delivery of a new PowerBook - to replace my rapidly decaying Sony Vaio. I fired it up - added Firefox and Thunderbird, installed patches, setup mail the rebooted and ... the sucker never came back up (actually it did but the screen stopped working). I'm going to be OoO for the next week presenting to customers and was looking forward to doing that on a shiny new PowerBook - now I'll be travelling with a USB stick hoping I can borrow a machine for presentations :(

My experience with Apple wasn't all bad - customer support recommended I race down to an Apple Store and see if they could fix the problem  (they couldn't) but they offer this great service  where you can sit down with an Apple Geek and basically do whatever you want. That's a great service - and I'll certainly be booking a power users primer so I can get up to speed.

Apple also offered to ship my new machine overnight to my hotel in NYC (or anywhere else) and I did find the whole customer support experience distinctly less crap than what I've come to expect.

Ah well,  strike 1. Apple get 2 more chances - hopefuly when I return home next week - there will be a box waitng for me; and the contents will be fully functional :)

Can you still get PowerBooks? I thought they were all Intel now...

Doh - my mistake - I'm pretty new to the world of Apple (though I did co-own an Apple (LC) while at college) - I did indeed mean the Intel-based MacBook Pro.

At least you didn't have this nocturnal surprise.
