Just after I took this picture - the thermometer went up to 109.4 F - for us a new record (we usually get a couple of days a year at or close to 100 F but this has been the fourth day where it's been well into the 100's.

Yesterday we headed off to Natural Bridges beach where the cool ocean breeze keept it down to the high 70's - unfortunately it took us 2 hours to drive back home - I guess everyone had the same idea as us.

My advice is to drink plenty - even non-alchoholic drinks will help :)

Cheers, Rich

I would suggest you spend some time in Kansas City. A few years back it was 105f at 85% humidity for about 2 weeks straight. Sweat doesn't tend do evaporate at that humidity level without a strong wind, and no sweat evaporation = no natural cooling. People died. 105f @ 20% humidity wouldn't even make someone from KC break a sweat. Not trying to one-up you here, but you Californians have it easier than you think.

I'm not sure the hunidity was that low - my $20 thermometer might be a little unreliable. The main problem with the recent hot spell is the unusually high humidity - not quite as 85% but much higher than we're used to. And you are right - dry heat isn't a big deal (notwithstanding Death Valley). btw - I'm not Californian - I'm English - and as everyone knows - we love to whine about the weather - and you can be sure I'll be whining about the average weather we're expecting next week :)
