Two things to be pissed-off about this morning. First Performancing (which produce the spiffy Firefox blog editor plugin I use) looks like they''ve gone belly-up. According to TechCrunch the demise may not be as swift and as clean as you might hope for. I hope the blog editor lives on - I rather like it (though support for the Roller's tags would be nice).
Second blogrant - I'll be on the road for some of this week and next so was just setting everything up for working on the road when I noticed my Treo wasn't able to collect mail from Sun's edge mail service. I tried a bunch of stuff (that mere mortals shouldn't have to know about) but couldn't make it work. The Treo just kept insisting it was out of memory shortly after connecting to the IMAP server. I'm not one to give up easily (especially when fighting electronic stuff) but don't really have time to debug right now. So instead, I installed ChatterMail and was up and running in no time. In hindsight - I probably should have switched from VersaMail a long time ago - ChatterMail is a fine piece of software and I'll probably buy it when my 30-days are up. This is a pretty common complaint I hear about Palm's products - the included apps are generally OK - but you probably want to replace them with much better commercial apps. of which there is an abundance. Kudos to Palm for creating the business ecosystem to allow that - I wonder if that's the path that Apple will take with the iPhone.

As Mary mentions - Project Blackbox is causing a real stir internally - reframing a problem with such an innovative solution really causes people to break their pre-conceived ideas and think out of the box as well. The interest isn't just internal - I was talking at Sun's EBC today and had quite a battle bringing the conversation back to software strategy - the customer really wanted to brainstorm some uses for Blackbox; debate the economics of water cooling over Freon; understand the logistics of deploying a backup data center.
Over lunch we had a quick tour of the Blackbox 'pilot' (which is sitting outside Sun's Menlo Park EBC) - there were six or seven other customers and everyone was engaged in similar discussions. Some of the discussions I overheard we're nearly as interesting as Blackbox itself.
I managed to snap a couple of pictures (below) on my "thing that used to be a phone" - Jonathan Schwartz and Bill Vass we're there but I didn't get any pictures of them.
I just wonder how we handle the try-n-buy program !

OK, maybe if I use a decent tool I might find time to blog more - I took a look at w.bloggar a while back but ran into known problems with our previous version of roller. Now we have upgraded roller I thought I'd give it another spin; this was posted using w.bloggar v3.03 - if you see this post then it looks like things are working better.
... at least for now, but I really need something that supports Linux and Palm OS 5. I'll give w.bloggar a spin and post a mini review here - any other recommendations would be gratefuly accepted.
