Oracle is No IBM I see some very exciting synergies in Oracle's acquisition of Sun, many of which are covered in this joint presentation and also this FAQ on the Oracle website. I see the dole queue for just as many of us as if IBM were taking the reins.

Based on all of the published materials Oracle is interested in becoming a systems company. Sun has the broad porfolio and skills to enable that. IBM, on the other hand, is already a systems company and would have had little need for much of what Sun does.
So, I'm curious why you think the employee impact would be the same in both cases.
