Monday April 20, 2009 Oracle is No IBM
I see some very exciting synergies in Oracle's acquisition of Sun, many of which are covered in this joint presentation and also this FAQ on the Oracle website.
Very unlike the rumored IBM acquisition of Sun, which I think would have gone like this.

I see the dole queue for just as many of us as if IBM were taking the reins.

Based on all of the published materials Oracle is interested in becoming a systems company. Sun has the broad porfolio and skills to enable that. IBM, on the other hand, is already a systems company and would have had little need for much of what Sun does.
So, I'm curious why you think the employee impact would be the same in both cases.
