We, the Sun Club of SMVDU are organizing Software Freedom Day on 21st of this Month.

Today, when i was discussing the final schedule of the event with my director, He asked us “why not we promote Open Office In our University? Currently we pay some 400000 for Microsoft Office 2003."

This was totally surprising for us. We thought that for academics at least it should be free.

It means a big percentage of poor students fee is donated to the richest person for no reason.  

And then we realized our mistake. Every one knows, Open Office Applications are far superior than that existing in our University.

I feel its superiority for 2 straight reasons

During SFD, we had earlier scheduled to Form Our     OpenSource / Linux club on the line of Java club.

The Sun Club was established last year and it has done more than 50 events in past 8 months. It also organizes regular classes in Java / Linux / Solaris in break hours.

Recently, Sun club peoples have also presented a blue print of Campus Automation system to Our Vice Chancellor. And as expected, he accepted our proposal, encouraged us and agreed to promote it up to the highest level.

So , the over all activity of Sun Club attracted the attention of Our Department and they asked us to take initiative in forming Linux Club , SMVDU.

Currently we have more than 70 Certified Linux students.

So, finally the Linux Peoples have got their first Project “Installing 500 Open Office on various computers in Campus” J

Sri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) was inaugurated by Dr A.P.J kalam in year 2004. It is spread in some 500 Acres , surrounded by Trikuta & kailash Hills. This place is 40 KM away from Jammu city and is totally safe(i am there for 3 years & still alive !). Communication is good (both transport & cell phone).

Courses

Currently it provides BTech,MBA,MBE and Master in Philosophy & culture courses other than P.Hd.BTech is available in * CSE * ECE * Mechanical * Industrial BioTech * B Arch * Admission to all engineering courses is through AIEEE entrance only.

Campus Life

All students admitted to university have to stay in university hostels.We have a really good hostel with charges from 7200(for single room) to 3000(tipple) for an year. There is central mess system which costs around 1500 a month.

facilities

* Basic facilities like Hospital, Play ground, entertainment , internet and a canteen is also available. * A branch of J&K bank is available in campus. * Good inner road is available. * A central park (with fountain) is also available. * An auditorium with 1000 capacity has recently came up.

First Convocation

First Convocation of university was held on 25 th of April. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

All that follows is what i am trying to justify "imagination is the Next biggest thing after technology ". Have u ever thought

• What are the factors that may challange your very identity
• what this concept is
• what other positive ideas we can drwa from these questions ?

These might seem like metaphysical questions,but in fact it has nothing to do with that. These questions are pure logics. Proof follows : I am pretty sure, if a person is randomly given different name every day he wakes up, finds himself in another geography, surrounded by different peoples , and having different roles to play, he will loose his Original Identity. (It needs a lot of imagination but ultimately its logically right. U may try to remember ur identity using ur roll number in ur class. New roll number, new school, new friends and u forget olders :( ). so i can firmly stat that the above mentioned factors really influence ur identity and a sudden change in these factors severly effects ur identity. By this analogy , i mean to say that Identity is itself a relative thing. It totally depends on factors which mey be simulated. Once simulated, it can be used for Medical, Social and many purposes. Please read below seriously Most of the ppl cry when they watch a sentimental scene in a movie/serial. Most ppl feel pain (atleast fear) when they see someone in acute pain. So , it can be said that almost all sort of feelings can be simulated . Now look at the reflexes we can draw in short : Eat in cheap restro. Get satisfaction of 5 STAR :) R u poor ? No Problem. get rich by simulation. Are u slow learner? . simulation can help u (remember Matrix ??) Other than these , it can seriously help some phycho patients. Lots other good applications exist. Few Tips for Sun Campus Ambassadors We ppl here at sun-club SMVDU are doing great. Actually in last week of nov, i with some of my friends offered my university authority a plan to automate the campus which will make admission, administration , marking scheme and other processes online and transparent. It will also work as the backbone of University management. (Project Codenamed CAMS cps).Initially it was little difficult to convince them , but after seeing my presentation (combined system & interface organization), planning and commitment, they finally accepted my proposal. This proposal includes 7 packages , which will take care of all the wings of university , from admission(on line/off- line)to mess management to atendence to grading to web etc . Currently we are working on SIS (Student information system) and admission Management system. Both of them are almost in there last phase. This overall initiative has given us (Sun Club) a reputation.Ppls connected to sun club are getting attention.Other than these, We ppl are also getting other prevelages.Like 1) All permission for insalling / accessing softwares in lab. 2) can work in lab for n hours. 3)Permission to go out to participate intech-fests. 4)Even some concession (if possible), and better marks ( :) ) 5)More attention of faculties. Also 1) here in our campus , we have Operating systems in 4th sem.I have asked the concerned faculty for a 1 hour presentation on solaris 10 (basics) and she has responded positivelyfor tues-wed day. 2)In earlier years, we were taught Microsoft SQL server in 6th sem. This time i convinced my faculty(Mr. Neeraj Nehra & sonik Mama)to tach Mysql (as its part of sun now). and obviously , he agreed :). Other tahn all these , ppls working for sun-club are feeling more confidant , and learning at the same time. we have got a mail account sun.club@smvdu.ac.in and our website will be totally new looking from tuesday.
