News, How-to's, and More SolarisCAT

Wednesday May 24, 2006

Many folks are reporting that when they start Solaris CAT 4.1 on a Solaris 10 system they see:

/opt/SUNWscat/bin/scat 0

  Solaris[TM] CAT 4.1 (build 526) for Solaris 10
64-bit SPARC(sun4u)

  Copyright © 2003 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights
reserved.
  Patents Pending. Use is subject to license terms.
  Sun Microsystems proprietary - DO NOT RE-DISTRIBUTE!

  Feedback regarding the tool should be sent to
SolarisCAT_Feedback@Sun.COM

opening vmcore.0 ...dumphdr...symtab...Assertion
failed: RW_LOCK_HELD(&(scn->s_elf->ed_rwlock)), file
../common/getdata.c, line 99
Abort - core dumped

This occurs because Solaris CAT 4.1 doesn't support Solaris 10.

The Development Team is trying to get version 4.2 released quickly. That version supports Solaris 10 and contains many, many bug fixes and enhancements. Please continue to check this blog for the announcement of 4.2's release.

One more vote for some kind of beta. Solaris 10 has been out almost a year and as we roll it out this vastly simplifies crash debugging.

Is the SCAT 4.2 is released yet? Or any tentative arrival of it?
