User Group meeting

Friday Jan 11, 2008

There was a meeting of the Sun User Group today. It was nice and neat. There were a few people missing out of the small number that I had started with but there have been some additions to the mailing list subscribers and some new people have shown interest in joining. Vikas Ruhela is a 2nd year IT student. He gave a small interactive session on Linux. He used the Ubuntu distribution. After that I told the members about Project Blackbox, the virtual data-center. This was followed by showing them how to fix a bug in the OpenSolaris source-code. For that I took example of one of the bugs I tried to fix during the winters.

Hope to see more activities in the User Group soon.

Sun Open Source User Group

Friday Dec 14, 2007

Day before yesterday we had the first meeting of the open source user group. We have started with a small number of students (around 20) to be a part of the user group. We have a unified mailing list for Java User Group and a Solaris User Group at Google Groups http://groups.google.com/group/uietsunusergroup/. Meetings of both the groups will be held together so that no one is kept away from the other technology.

Currently, the members have been asked to learn the basics of the respective technologies before we actively start sharing our knowledge from the month of January.

I wish all the members a good luck in their roles as a member of the User Group.
