Tools for Cloud Computing

Like most computer technologies, you either provide them or consume them.  If you are a creator of social apps, you might want to check out Zembly - an online tool to create and share Facebook apps, Meebo apps, OpenSocial apps, iPhone apps, Google Gadgets, embeddable widgets, and other social applications.

This means Free web hosting on a Sun powered Cloud.

Quite the rage for the 2008 Olympics, one social app that Pramati created was myPicks - which gives you the opportunity to predict the winners of each event and receive points for correct choices.  I currently stand at #50.  I've ranged from #5 to #106.  I'm not sure how many people have entered yet, but it must me at least 1000 worldwide.

Using Sun for Cloud Computing - Right Now

Cloud Computing is now a word that means many things - like "Web 2.0"

Two major branches in my discussion are USING and PROVIDING cloud computing services.

If you are PROVIDING cloud computing services, Sun has products, technologies, solutions, and services to help design, build, and manage the efficient, scalable web infrastructures.  Sun CMT servers, Solaris with ZFS, Dtrace, virtualization

If you are USING cloud computing services, Sun has a few offers now, and more coming.

1. network.com - 55 applications that are hosted on a grid for computational-intensive workloads like life sciences, fluid dynamics, computational mathematics, rendering. None of these apply to the modern use for Web and mobile, but they are cloud services.

2. Solaris on Amazon Web Services - preinstalled with Glassfish; eventually others like Web Stack.

3. zembly.com - for developers to create and share widgets for Facebook, Meebo, OpenSocial, and iPhone.  Free web hosting on Sun powered Cloud.

Coming: More web are cloud services on the way.  If you'd like to see particular things, let me know.

Thank You for the Legend, Michael Phelps

Thank You Michael Phelps for a once in a lifetime experience to see an athletic event that will live forever in our memories.  What seems to make your historic event extra special is the way you have conducted yourself with the extra attention and media poured upon you throughout the Olympics in Beijing.  It would have been very easy to be flashy and arrogant - you were none of that.

You will inspire generations to set goals, work hard, and overcome adversity in a respectable fashion.

I see how Mark Spitz has continued his own class act since his grand achievement and expect you to follow in his footsteps with an inspirational speaking circuit.   It's a great responsibility and not always easy, but I'm trust you got what it takes.

There were many, many great events at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, but nothing matches the history you created.  So thanks again for showing us that the seemingly impossible can happen - never give up - A true Legend.
