I want to see what kind of trouble -- visual, audio, or on-line -- Cuban gets into through the course of the Finals. I want to read his blog, and get the unfiltered first-hand owner's brain dump when his team accelerates through the top flight of its league for the first time.
Cuban gets it big-time, from his criticisms of mainstream news and sports media to his on-line implicit arguments with the NBA to just opening up the sports ownership kimono as much as possible. Cuban listens to his team and his customers. And probably not too many other people, because he's in output mostly mode when it comes to those who don't see where the future is going. Read his blog; from click fraud to the news media to how to run a franchise, it's full of good ideas.
When I was in middle school, I had to write a short essay on an "American Hero." I picked Ted Turner, mostly because he had just won the America's Cup. I remember writing about him being the "Mouth From the South", long before he started CNN and revolutionzed (at the time) the news media. Want to know who the next Ted Turner is? It's Mark Cuban, except his sports team won't choke down the stretch (sorry, Braves, Flames and Hawks fans everywhere).
I know that Jonathan Schwartz is held up as the only Fortune 500 company CEO with his own blog, but Cuban ties him in the CEO category and understands adoption (as in high-definition TV) just as well. If someone on the Sun executive leadership team begins to call for the chalupa during a staff meeting, I'll give the tie-breaker to Cuban.
Just how spectacular, and ironic, would it be for David Stern to pass the championship trophy to a guy he fined over a blog entry?
