Sun Connection on Linux
As we see more and more adoption of Sun Connection by enterprise clients, I get more and more chances to speak to potential customers. Several recent potential customers have raised a common thread: is Sun committed to supporting Linux as part of Sun Connection? The answer is an emphatic YES! But, even when I say that they ask "why?" If Sun is committed to Solaris (and we are) then why have Sun Connection support Linux? There are many reasons for this, so I thought it might help if I outlined them. 1. We're good at it. We have a large number of customers managing large Linux installations with Sun Connection today. Our largest two largest Linux users each have over 2,000 nodes under management. 2. Sun supports Linux with a broad set of software products. Products like the Java Enterprise System suite of Software Infrastructure, JCAPS SOA platform, and even StarOffice all support multiple Linux flavors. 3. Sun ships thousands of pieces of hardware each year that run Linux. Here's a sample list of hardware pre-qualified to run RedHat. 4. Sun has relationships with major Linux vendors like RedHat, Novell/SuSE and Ubuntu. Check out this page for details.
