Sun xVM Ops Center 1.0
Today is the day we finally announce the general availability (GA) if Sun xVM Ops Center 1.0! It's been a long time coming, so I'm really excited. We'd planned to announce this last month, but decided to fix up a few more things based on some early customer feedback. This is the first step in a journey for this team. Sun xVM is the first new software platform that Sun has built in a long time, and I'm hugely proud of the Ops Center team that has worked so hard to achieve this milestone. For our potential customers, and for the Sun sales and services organization, I want to make it clear that this is just the beginning. We know that Ops Center 1.0 will find uses in a range of customers, but we have so much more planned. As we go out to work with our first customers on 1.0, I'll be sharing plans for upcoming 1.5 and 2.0 releases of Ops Center. These releases will make the platform even more exciting. In the mean time, the tech pubs and marketing team put together a little a little "commercial" for Ops Center 1.0. I've never worked on a product with an actual commercial before, so this is really cool. Click on the thumbnail below to watch it. How do people download a copy of xVM Ops Center to try it? The info on http://www.sun.com/software/products/xvmopscenter/get.jsp
just seems to have a way to let a salesperson contact you.

I have the same comment as William. If "GA" means "General Availability"... then I would expect to be able to download it like any other Sun product. Unless you really bend the meaning of "available" :) . Still, looking forward to giving it a try! Congrats on all the hard work!

Yeah, a download location would be nice. We've been waiting for this since it was announced!

Just chiming in to add my request for information re: downloads. Every piece of software Sun writes is supposed to be available for free, and open source; so I'm sure this is coming. It would just be nice to know when.
I'm looking forward to trying this out when it's available.

A download version is coming. We're pushing the code out onto the Open Source site (openxvm.org) now -- some is there now, more is coming shortly. We're also getting the docs and online training ready that folks will know what to do with it when they get it. :-) This is all coming together really fast. Stay tuned. I'll be posting more here about that.
In the mean time, we're ready to engage with customers who are interested in piloting the software. We're doing deployments with customers (and potential customers) now.
