xVM Ops Center 2.5
It's been about a month since we shipped Ops Center 2.1. The field teams are in full swing rolling it out at new customers, but the engineering teams are all heads down working on new features for Ops Center 2.5! It's a busy time to be sure, but I thought I'd take some time over the next few days to give you all a sneak peak of some of the new things coming in 2.5 -- which is due the second-half of this Summer. The first one I thought I'd give you a peak at is Windows update management. One of the key features for Ops Center has always been it's advanced support for patching Solaris and Linux systems. However, we haven't been able to help people with Windows. Well, in Ops Center 2.5 we're adding support for patching of Windows -- giving users a "single pane of glass" to manage Solaris, Linux and Windows patching. @Frederic: we don't have Debian on the list right now, but we're always considering new platform options (we currently focus on RedHat and SuSE for Linux). If others here have interest in Ops Center for Debian, please let us know!
@Casy: marketing got so excited about these new features they wanted to skip some numbers to show what a big deal it is. ;-)

Our company has been following Ops Center development very closely, this new features to support Windows as well might make the product interesting enough to consider. I have one question however, does Ops Center support only Sun hardware? What about Fujisu Siemens servers or any other big manufacturers hardware? What about Linux/Solaris servers running on VMware?

@Jukka K: This depends on what you mean with supporting hardware. For hardware/platform management you need to have machines qualified with a supported ALOM/iLOM/eLOM. For patching we only look at the OS itself, so we support patching and updating Solaris 10 running under VMware, or running Solaris 10 on an HP Blade.

How about hypervisor support for Windows? Can I effectively replace VMware VI3 Enterprise with xVM Ops Center 2.5?
