xVM Ops Center in Action

The xVM Ops Center team recently shipped version 1.1 -- the first feature release of this new product for automating your data center.  There are several key features that were added to the release:

  • The ability to do most operations without the Satellite server having access to the Internet
  • The ability to run the Satellite and Proxy management tiers on RedHat linux, in addition to Solaris 10
  • Improved reporting of job failure details
  • Copy, update and re-run jobs
  • Run a  baseline report against the inventory database (instead of each actually system) -- major performance boost!
  • Monitoring of agent up/down status

Another key addition is generic support for ILOM 2.  This means that any server with an ILOM 2 Service process can be fully controlled, in an agentless fashion, by Ops Center.  In the N1 Systems Manager (a predecessor product to Ops Center) the product needed to be revised for each new type of server.  Now you can just assume that systems using Sun's most popular Service Processor are supported by default.

So, would you like to see Ops Center 1.1 in action live?  The best way is to sign up for an Ops Center webinar where one of our engineers will walk through a live demonstration of various aspects of the product, and answer questions in real time from participants.  The next webinar is scheduled for Thursday June 19 at 9am Pacific time.  You can click here to sign up.

If you can't make the session this Thursday, there are also two scheduled for next month.  Go check one out!
