Recently Brocade announced their intention to contribute an intiator FC driver to OpenSolaris. This is great for several reasons:

First, it provides additional choices for Fibre Channel HBAs to the enterprise class market. Customers and ISVs care about choice and, the more device drivers available, the more choice a consumer has.

Secondly, contributing to the body of knowledge accelerates additional development. Case in point: Sun recently released the code-complete version of COMSTAR to the OpenSolaris community. Since this was done all in the open, providers of HBAs can contribute to the development effort. In fact, Brocade is also contributing a target driver.
