OpenSolaris 2008.11 is here - "The latest release of OpenSolaris (2008.11) just posted a few weeks ago. As we discussed in Brasil it is so easy to get and so easy to kick the tires using Virtual Box. The community has been busy building out the latest enhancements to this release. We have aggregated FOSS components such as GNOME, FireFox and Thunderbird while having innovated as well. Take notice of our new installer, OpenOffice 3.0, ZFS Time Slider as well as the integrated packaging system (IPS) repository. Innovation and aggregation brought to you by the same source..." - Bob Porras
My favourite delivery today (it's not 2008.11 !) - "Last night, close to midnight, I'd started writing a blog entry about Solaris on the desktop, the different environments we've used, and was going to talk a bit about how far we've come from when I joined Sun back in 1996 up to today's release of OpenSolaris 2008.11 (I was also going to mention my role in writing a chunk of Time Slider for the current desktop environment) but that post's for another day..." - congrats to Tim Foster!
CommunityOne: Call for Participation Deadline - "The deadline for CommunityOne's call for participation is rapidly approaching: December 15th. So, if you want to talk, get your submissions in soon." - Jim Grisanzio
ZFS Snapshot Rollup Bash Script - "As a follow on to my blog entry Provisioning Disaster Recovery with ZFS, iSCSI and VMware I
created this snapshot rollup script to help maintain the growing
snapshots and minimize disk consumption. The script is an add-on to the
zfsadm account cron jobs and runs under the security privileges of the
zfsadm user detailed in that blog. An input text file is used to
specify what ZFS path's will be rolled up to a Grandfather Father Son
backup scheme." - Mike La Spina
