Date : March 2008

* Can you tell us about the application, site, or service in which you have adopted GlassFish?

[ Note: this is where you can hopefully get some publicity for your own business or project. So consider including any hyperlinks, screenshots, etc. that you would like for us to use in that context. ]

The project Electronic Case Record (elektronische Fallakte, www.fallakte.de) is initiated by the German Association of Hospitals (Deutsche Krankenhausgesellschaft e. V.). The projects aims to enhance the communication of electronic case records by specifying a standard.

Currently ten German hospitals participate in pilot projects implementing the specifications written by Fraunhofer Gesellschaft.

The reference implementation is based on GlassFish.

* How and when did you first find out about GlassFish?

We discovered Glassfish in November 2006, when we decided to use WSIT as the web service security stack for the reference implementation.

* Did you go through an evaluation process before selecting GlassFish? If so, can you tell us a little bit about the process and results?

Yes, we investigated several open source web service frameworks, e.g. Apache Axis 2 and JBoss Web Services. The choice to use WSIT is based on the promoted interoperability with Microsoft platforms.

* What specific version of GlassFish are you using?

The reference implementation is based on Glassfish v2 fcs

At the moment Glassfish V2 b58 and the nightly build from Tuesday, January 15, 2008 are used.

* On what operating system do you run GlassFish? Do you use the same OS for both development and production deployment?

We use the same OS (Windows XP Pro SP2) for the development and the deployment.

* On what hardware platform do you run GlassFish? Do you use the same platform for both development and production deployment?

The development platform bases on a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz with 768 MB RAM. A Pentium 4 2.53 GHz with 2 GB RAM is used as a production platform.

* Have you purchased support for GlassFish? If not, have you though about doing so?

No

* What specific features or modules of GlassFish are you using?

The specifications heavily rely on the WS-* standards. Thus the reference implementation uses the implementations of WS-Trust, WS-Policy and WS-SecureConversation as part of WSIT.

* What do you like most about GlassFish?

The wide development community and the platform independence are the likable benefits.

* What would you most like to see improved in GlassFish?

We are already in contact with the engineering team for WSIT to include some features. Among these features are the handling of SAML assertions (handling of multiple SAML Assertions, nested SAML Assertions, callbacks).

* Are you using any open source or commercial frameworks or tools in your application? (Examples could include Struts, Spring, or Hibernate; for more examples, see http://www.glassfishwiki.org/gfwiki/Wiki.jsp?page=FrameworksApplicationsToolsCatalog)

Currently no persistence layer and graphical user interface are implemented in the reference implementation. So no further framework is used.

* Does your application use a database? If so, which one?

No.

* Are there any figures about the scale of your adoption which you would like to share (such as how much traffic is being handled, how many servers are used, how much developer time went into building your application)?

n/a

* How has GlassFish performed since your application went live? Have you run into any production issues which you would attribute to GlassFish?

The application server runs as desired. We discovered no downsides except several open issues in the WSIT module.

* How would your describe your participation in the GlassFish project (e.g. user only, submitter of bug reports and RFEs, developer who has contributed code)?

Submitter of bug reports and RFEs

* Is there anything else you think would be of interest in a story about your GlassFish adoption?

n/a
