Can you tell us about the application, site, or service in which you have adopted GlassFish?
GFOS (Company for Organization consulting and Software development Ltd, Essen/Germany) is a leading supplier of software to achieve comprehensive integration of all business data by combining all business resources into an IT system with horizontal as well as vertical integration.
With StURM®, i.e. "Strategic Company-Resource-Management", and the modern software family X/TIME® GFOS, the customer is able to visualize, control and direct all the company resources along its chain of production, thus providing a solid basis for well-founded decisions of management and its staff.
GFOS develops, sells, and implements medium-sized software and system house for time administration of personnel, input planning, access control, business data assembling, and production management.
Established in 1988, GFOS is now among the most steady and most successful suppliers of software solutions in these segments. The new generation 4.x of its X/TIME® software family is based on the most modern architecture, developing surroundings, models, and tools.
Its integrated solution of time, business and personnel data has been deployed more than 2.800 times in a huge variety of branches and 400 times abroad. More than 1.000 customers all over the world trust into GFOS and X/TIME® has been translated into 11 languages and can be found in 18 countries.
How and when did you first find out about GlassFish?
During our research work concerning Java EE 5, Sun has drawn our attention to GlassFish since that is the reference implementation for EJB 3.
Did you go through an evaluation process before selecting GlassFish? If so, can you tell us a little bit about the process and results?
In the course of our research work mentioned above, we have judged the stepping stones for our future developments mainly along the following lines:
We were determined by all means to reach a solution which is a genuinely standard one. That is why we went to a huge variety of software versions to be used within the most different environments. We considered GlassFish to be the best suited way to achieve our goals. During the entire process of developing right through to this day, this decision has proven to be the right one.
What specific version of GlassFish are you using?
We use GlassFish V2.
On what operating system do you run GlassFish? Do you use the same OS for both development and production deployment?
We are developing under Windows and Linux.
We shall be producing under Windows, Linux, and Unix (Solaris ...).
On what hardware platform do you run GlassFish? Do you use the same platform for both development and production deployment?
Our platform for development is Intel whereas for production we shall use Intel, SPARC, and PowerPC.
What specific features or modules of GlassFish are you using?
We are using EJB3, JSF, JPA and JMX, since we are constructing web applications in line with Java EE 5 standards.
What do you like most about GlassFish?
Are you using any open source or commercial frameworks or tools in your application?

We support the most widely used database systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, Informix, DB2.

Are there any figures about the scale of your adoption which you would like to share?
The scale of adoption of our application varies from 100 to more than 100.000 members of staff to be dealt with.

How has GlassFish performed since your application went live? Have you run into any production issues which you would attribute to GlassFish?
At this moment, we cannot yet comment on the stability of GlassFish under production conditions.
During the course of development, however, GlassFish has been very stable and performing very well.
