Can you tell us about the application, site, or service in which you have adopted GlassFish?
Kenai.com.
Sun's new foundation for its connected developer experience of
tomorrow. It allows developers to host open source projects, code
and collaborate w/ fellow developers via forums, wikis, mailing lists
and an issue tracker if desired.
How and when did you first find out about GlassFish?
5/2007 or inception of the project.
Did you go through an evaluation process before selecting GlassFish?
Yes. GlassFish meets our needs to run Ruby on Rails applications on JRuby. GlassFish
was suitable for our needs, we wanted to prove that JRuby works well
with it. We went through some growing pains mostly with the maturity of
JRuby, but the GlassFish team has been extremely helpful along the way
with tuning and diagnosing performance issues.
What specific version of GlassFish are you using?
GF v2 b58g
On what operating system do you run GlassFish? Do you use the same OS for both development and production deployment?
SunOS snv_70b (OpenSolaris b70b). No. We use MacOS and Ubutu for development in addition to Solaris.
On
what hardware platform do you run GlassFish? Do you use the same
platform for both development and production deployment?
Sparc (T2000). No. We run GlassFish on x86 in addition to sparc.
Have you purchased a GlassFish subscription?
No.
What specific features or modules of GlassFish are you using?
Web Server
Are you using OpenMQ?
No.
What do you like most about GlassFish?
A Sun project w/ good service and support.
What would you most like to see improved in GlassFish?
Improve memory usage during many hot deployments.
Are you using any open source or commercial frameworks or tools in your application?
Yes. NetBeans.
Does your application use a database? If so, which one?
Yes, MySQL 5.0.45
Are there any figures about the scale of your adoption which you would like to share ?
The
site has 7051 users and 521 projects. 2 GF server w/ 3 domains
each for Kenai.com and 2 domains each for odftoolkit.org.
How has GlassFish performed since your application went live?
Good. The GlassFish processes have been among the most stable of our deployment.
How would your describe your participation in the GlassFish project ?
User only.
Is there anything else you think would be of interest in a story about your GlassFish adoption?
We use GF domains to help scale our site horizontally. It has been working very well so far.
