Amir Ashraf Aazmi, a student and OSUM leader at the Haldia Institute of Technology, has written a blog reporting on the first tech demo about "Sun and Open Source" for his university.

Amir and Saurav Kumar Paul were the presenters of the demo, and Amir reports that nearly 70 students attended!

Amir and Saurav introduced the students to Sun and its products such as NetBeans, GlassFish, OpenOffice.org, JavaFX, and MySQL among others. He noted that the students were fascinated by the concept of cloud computing, and most had never heard of the concept behind open source software.

The presentation went into great depth to explain FOSS.  Amir describes some of the features are that "Users can see the code, change it, learn from it.  Bugs are fixed quickly."  Amir notes that by the end of the demo the students could clearly see the future of open source technologies and "why there was a need for students to start contributing to FOSS community for driving innovation in the whole industry."

All in all, it sounds like the demo was a success!  Amir reports that the next event is approaching quickly and will be held May 21.  The event will be a seminar on "Java with NetBeans."  Keep up the good work!
