Thiago Sa, a campus ambassador from Universidade Federal do Ceara, UFC Brazil blogged recently about the April 25th Free Software Installation Latin American Festival (FLISOL) day in Fortaleza, Brazil.

The event was held at Casa Brasil, a project of the Brazilian government that "aims to provide connectivity, art, culture, and entertainment" to developing areas.  Thiago writes that because the event was not at a university or business center, they attracted crowds of children and teenagers who were first-time attendees of a technology event, as well as many older participants. Thiago writes that "it was really interesting and rewarding observing them passionately participating, making very interesting questions and discovering new things."

The FLISOL event included cultural presentations, a digital culture forum, and seminars.  Thiago also reports there was an all-day Install Fest that was supported by TuX-CE, who is "one of the biggest Linux communities in our state."   Thiago also gave a one-hour tech demo on OpenSolaris and the group spent all day raffling prizes from Sun.

Overall, it sounds like a very successful event, particularly because they drew such a range of interested individuals from very young to very old.  Perhaps in the future groups may consider coordinating more events to be held "off campus" if possible so as to attract other enthusiastic users from the community.

Please check out Thiago's blog for all of the details and pictures from the event!
