WWVW provides life changing experience
Vittal, a Campus Ambassador at the RNS Institute of Technology, Bangalore, and member of the OSUM community, took part in two volunteer activities during Sun's World Wide Volunteer Week (WWVW).
Vittal wrote about both efforts, the first of which was an eco drive at Sangram (100 kilometers from Bangalore) where Vittal and more than 50 volunteers cleared the trash and debris from a popular picnic spot, and also installed trash bins to help keep the area clean in the future.
For Vittal's second volunteer event he went to Shishu Mandir, a school for orphans and the needy in Bangalore. At Shishu Mandir the volunteers played "musical chairs" and "pass the ball" with the children, and gave prizes to the winners in each competition. The Sun volunteers also organized a painting competition and gave each child paper, crayons, and pens. Vittal reported that some of the children "were absolutely brilliant."
After lunch the children sang songs as individuals and as a group, and Vittal has provided video of the group singing "It's a Small World."
Vittal said it was hard to leave because in "Just a matter of 5-7 hours, the kids left a lasting impression in my heart. I will never forget this activity in my life."
Please check out Vittal's blogs on his experiences during WWVW where you can find even more links to the photos from both events. They are both great examples of giving back to the community, and attest to the generous nature of Vittal and the other volunteers who took part in WWVW.
