The New Galaxy of "Desktops"

Hey all, I spent the last couple of days setting up a Sun Ray server and Secure Global Desktop (Tarantella) on one of our new Sun Fire X4100 servers and I love it. I loved the fact that I didn't need to use a serial cable to console in, and also loved being able to install the box with it being in the cold windy server room and me in the not so cold office a couple of levels up. The Remote install capability and lights out management really impressed me how they worked first go. Well second go, as first go I needed to install the latest Jave Runtime Environment 1.5_04 on my laptop. I even tested it over my ADSL link while VPN'd in and it worked awesomely. So I installed Solaris 10 and then installed Sun Ray Server 3.1 in the Global Zone (ie. the default one) and got the Sun Ray's up and running. This took about 1 hour. Then I decided to be adventurous and install Sun Secure Global Desktop (SGSD) or previously known as Tarantella on the same box, and it all worked sweetly. The install is sooo much better than earlier versions of Tarantella, as I have played with Tarantella for years. Once it was all up and working I then connected the Sun SGD and created links to Windows Desktop's to North Sydney's iForce centre, as also to my own personal server http://mozzarella.aus. So in half a day I got all this up and running, where as I did a similar thing last year and it took me most of the day. It's great how technology just makes life alot easier. The other day I helped a partner of our to install Windows 2003 64but edition, and then also the 32bit edition on a similar Sun Fire X4100 AMD Opteron server. It absolutely flied, their apps were considerably faster running on our AMD Opteron Servers than similar spec'd boxes from other vendors. Also they mentioned that they are sooo cheap and soo much quality and bundled value with Lights out management, and Remote Console that are extra with other systems. As the person was telling me this I almost had GOOSEBUMPS!!!. I love when people just get it!!! Anyways thats it for today, hopefully I can get a chance to write add to my BLOG soon. Cyaz, Maurice PS. Thanks Spike for the history or Bruce. I should actually watch Monty Python at some point !!!

For shipment info you need to speak to your Sun Sales Representative or Sun Partner with whom you purchased them from.
