Aiming to extend language support in Solaris and OpenSolaris, we just started a new OpenSolaris project called Locale Data. The target is to be at the same or even better level than Linux systems.

To clarify things, here is a definition of LOCALE -- The features of the user's environment that are dependent on language, country, and cultural conventions. The locale determines conventions such as sort order; date, time, number, and currency formats.

This project covers several different task related to locales in OpenSolaris. We are planning to add new locales, update and improve current ones as well as give you possibility to add your own. There's plenty of locales already supported, but we are still missing most of Africa, parts of Eastern Europe and others. So we decided to do something about that!

It is really easy to help even for people without technical background, so we hope to get an interest from the community. Come and check it out http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/localedata/
