International Women's Day

Thursday Mar 08, 2007

Today is International Women's Day. But for a few reminders from some international colleagues, there hasn't been much celebration here in Silicon Valley, USA.

For a different take on International Women's Day, I recommend a look at Anjana Sriram's blog, A celebration of the mystery called ‘woman’ and Manjula Kandula's blog, "She rocks the world."

Another colleague, Michelle Olson, just got back from the OpenSolaris Developer's Conference in Berlin. See her blog at Michelle's blog. The number 1 question she was asked: "Are you from marketing?". Don't forget, Michelle is a candidate for the OpenSolaris Governing Board!

They used to say, "you've come a long way baby." Today makes you want to stop a moment and think about the journey that is still ahead.

It's very easy to forget the starting point and take for granted where we are today. Our issues have different nuances. Wage gaps, for example, may not be as obvious to us, at least in a professional setting. On the other hand, work/life balance is one of today's critical family issues.
