The problem with email filters

email filters are one of those tools we use to help us manage the deluge of unsolicited email that we receive on a daily basis. For months I dutifully sent SPAM to Sun's SPAM alias. Nonetheless, the spammers kept at it. Finally, for the sake of my own productivity, I figured out how to set up personal filters to rid myself of the frequent spammers.
The problem with email filters is that there are sometimes unintended consequences.
For example, all the notices from Sun's password management folks reminding me to make my semi-annual change to my LDAP password (or else) were filtered to my trash. Needless to say, yesterday I didn't have access to my email, or to much of anything else that required my LDAP password. So much for productivity. Since I can't figure out which filter caught the email notices, I will have to resort to setting up my own 6 month calendar reminder.











I always send spam to the spam-ext alias too. And...
