So the gym is rubbish at the W hotel here in Newark (travelers be warned). I thought I'd go for a run this morning. Did about a mile before getting bored (OK 1/2 mile, then 1/2 mile back really).
I'm sure it would have been nicer if I were running along a trail somewhere instead of along the skanky area around this side edge of the bay, but to get to a trail I'd need to either get in my car and drive, or get on a bike. Kind of defeats the point IMO, might as well get on a bike with the intention to exercise in the first place.
Yes, there are treadmills in the hotel gym. But I can't think of anything more depressing than plodding along and getting nowhere, except maybe trying to squeeze myself into a Virgin Atlantic Economy class seat (knees behind ears usually works).
I'll just stick to biking. Added benefit is that you can freewheel and admire the scenery, and you get to go extra fast downhill. Plus if you're a big kid like me you can also do cool skids and scare people.
When near a Sun campus, I just get up early and go to Fit@Sun. If you want an even better gym there are about 4 or 5 Golds around that part that will let you buy a pass for a few days. I used to plan my trips around going to the gym. Need to start doing that again.
