Sun Studio Express 3 has been released

The third public release for preview of Sun Studio upcoming release is now ready for download (here). Give it a try, kick the tires on its new features and give the team valuable feedback on what you like and what you dont. You can post questions to Sun engineers and the community at the Sun Forums (here)

All of the new features are described here. The most prominent among them are:

A new IDE based on Netbeans 5.5.1, includes

• C/C++ Project support

• supports file-types specific to C and C++ developers such as makefiles, header, shell, and source files
• supports makefile-based projects
• provides templates for typical projects, dynamic libraries and static libraries
• C/C++ class browser with a fast source code parser which doesnt require compilation
• Language-aware Built-in Editor supports code completion, code folding, syntax highlighting, indentation, etc
• Makefile support with project wizard for easy importing of existing projects, a wizard for easy creation of makefiles, etc
•  Newly re-integrated GUI debugger which supports multiple sessions, lets you attach to running programs and is integrated with the built-in editor
• Preferences settings
•  Links to online documentation and Sun Developer Network(SDN) and Forums

• Support of new attributes of  __attribute__ clause
• Support of g++ extensions
• __typeof__
• __alignof__ now accepts expressions
• extern template
• long long bitfields, currently by default only on Linux
• Compilers now generate DWARF for debugging
• SSE3 instructions support to assembler and inline templates
• Media floating point intrinsic functions support
• Several new and improved optimizations
