I am not a lawyer, but as I understand it, it isn't Sun who owns the rights to that code.
The right's owner has to release it.

With our workload, I don't see it being done internally. We are focused on pNFS almost exclusively.
It would be a great project to be done out in the wild.
By the way, I don't know how often we as a group go down into the closed tree. I'm pretty sure I haven't been down there at all.
