A Technical Writer Writes 

Good News for Users of the docs.sun.com[sm] Site

Most of the technical documentation that I write for Sun is published on the docs.sun.com^SM site. As you might imagine, I'm almost as frustrated as users to see the delivery of this documentation hampered by the well advertised shortcomings of this site.

So, I am very pleased by a couple of recent developments that should get users to the information that they're looking for that much quicker:

• Higher performance and reliability. No longer will you need to take a coffee break while you wait for the site to load the page that you have requested. If you have been frustrated by the long time it used to take to browse documents on this site, you should especially appreciate this change.
• Search that works. At last, the presentation of search results is now consistent with other search engines: a stack-ranked list of links directly to topics that contain the search term. No longer will you need to hunt through books until the red dots run out.

If you rely on the docs.sun.com site for information about how to use Sun products, I hope that these changes will lead to greater satisfaction with the site in particular and with Sun's products in general.
