I'm Such a Dinosaur

On Monday, I attended the Sun CommunityOne event. Sun's bloggers and at least one news organization have already reported in detail on this event and have already moved on to more recent events, so I'll not reprise what's already been covered elsewhere.

At the GlassFish track, Eduardo presented a very good overview of what GlassFish is all about. From the session about GlassFish in real life I gained some useful insights into how customers actually use the product. One user made some comments specifically about the documentation, which I hope I can follow up on. At the end of the day, Jerome gave a very interesting presentation about GlassFish v3. I was quite impressed by Jerome's ability to write code in the JavaTM language literally on his feet before a live audience.

One thing from the general session that I will comment on: During the Q&A part of the session I was struck by how much of a dinosaur I am. To submit questions from the floor, people could either send a text message or an email message. It was not possible to submit questions in person (for example, by raising a hand and walking to a mic). I can only conclude that the organizers had assumed that everybody would have either a cell phone or a laptop.

Not me:  My only wireless communication device works only one way is permanently tuned to KQED radio.

Comments:

At least you're a dinosaur without RSI in your thumbs.
