| California or Bust
It's now official. I signed and sent in my offer letter yesterday. I will be starting work in California on October 10th. Fortunately, I am keeping the same job, same manager, same product. I'm just changing offices and companies. (I'm moving from Sun Microsystems GmbH to Sun Microsystems, Inc., hence the having to sign an offer letter for my own job.)
Just to set the record straight, this move is for purely capitalist reasons. There's simply more opportunity for me in this group in Menlo Park than in Regensburg. I really feel no strong compulsion to leave Europe. I rather like it here, and there are definitely things I will miss, like 1L mugs of beer, for example. I strongly suspect, that I will eventually end up back in Europe before it's all said and done. For now, though, the siren's song of Silicon Valley is calling my name.
