Overview of GlassFish Unconference and CommunityOne
  Posted by pelegri in JavaOne

GF UnConference and CommunityOne lOgo

I've updated the GlassFish Event Page with the latest information on the 2008 GlassFish Unconference and CommunityOne.

I have linked to 18 sessions related to GlassFish, covering AppServer, MQ, Portal, Social Software, ESB, FAM, Scripting, Persistence and Web Tier.

Some of the sessions are in the GF "track", others are listed elsewhere. This means you can't be in all the sessions you likely want to attend, so bring a friend and compare notes.

CommunityOne is free but space is limited. Register Now to save your place.

GlassFish at CommunityOne

Here is a very brief sketch of GlassFish-related activities at CommunityOne; I'll flesh it out over the weekend - we are in the last stretch before JavaOne and "free" blogging time is limited - just as news peak up.

Sunday before JavaOne - unconference in the afternoon at the Moscone. Alexis will organize this, with discussion at the advocacy at glassfish.dev.java.net mailing list.

Sunday before JavaOne - party in the evening in the Moscone area. PaulH and JohnC will organize this, details still TBD.

Monday is CommunityOne. There are demos, a track and many sessions.

General Session - with Keynote speakers
Demos - ESB, Portal, SocialNetworks, GFv2 and v3, UC and more, with sneak previews.
Track - Overview of v2 and v3, scripting, tools, and more, also sneak previews.
Lighting Talks - Part of GF track, several mini-presentations.
Other GF-realted Talks - Last count there were around 15 GF-related sessions
Party - There is a nice party at the end of the day.

The room allocation for a track is based on the number of people registered in that track; please register for the GF if you are interested.

Save the Date - GlassFish Activities the Sunday Before JavaOne
  Posted by pelegri in JavaOne

ALT DESCR

The plans around GlassFish activities in JavaOne 2008 continue to evolve. In addition to the presence in CommunityOne (Monday, May 5th) we are going to host other activities the day before, Sunday, May 4th.

Details are still unfolding but they are likely to be more focused on direct participation in GlassFish, in any of several roles, including contributors, system integrators, service providers, etc. Stay tuned but you may want to consider arranging your travel plans and accomodations accordingly.

Call for Submissions for CommunityOne 2008
  Posted by pelegri in JavaOne

CommunityOne Graphic with Big Tent

CommunityOne is back. This year GlassFish, friends and relatives put together our first GlassFish Day. The model for 2008 has not yet been finalized but the organizing committee is asking for submissions now to sketch content.

Like last year, attendees to C1 will get a free pass to the first day of JavaOne; registration for C1 starts in January and attendance is capped at 2500. The deadline for submission of abstracts is Jan 31st, check the process at the C1 Website.

We will discuss topics and approaches related to GlassFish submissions at the Advocacy@GF mailing list; there should be plenty of material for interesting submissions.

  Posted by pelegri in JavaOne

Bubbles... Sparky at GlassFish

There are many GlassFish-related TS and BOFs at JavaOne. Here is a fairly complete list, should have highlighted it earlier, except that I was busy.

Hope to see many of you tomorrow evening at the GlassFish BOF (BOF-7613); I'll send a reminder in a moment...

Lunch with Rich and Jonathan during GlassFish Day
  Posted by pelegri in JavaOne

A vintage Lunch Box

The schedule for CommunityOne is now available. It may still change a bit but the portion related to GlassFish Day is pretty stable. One recent addition is that during lunch time (noon-1pm) we will host Rich Green and Jonathan Schwartz. This being JavaOne week, I still don't know exactly what they will cover, but they indicated they would stay for some Q&A afterwards.

GlassFish Day is free but registration is required and space is limited. I don't know if they are going to enforce the limit they told us, but, if they are, you'd better hurry up and Register.

Do you have something Cool to Show? - Submit it to GlassFish Day
  Posted by pelegri in JavaOne

Birth of the Cool, by Miles Davis

Do you think you have a cool application, extension, or any use of any of the GlassFish Technologies? Come and show them off at GlassFish Day!

Send us a description of what you want to show, ideally as a screencast. We are reserving one demo station to show them but we may expand the program if we get many good contributions.

If you are planning to travel to JavaOne, or if you are local, you may gain an opportunity to show them in person; if not, we will find a way to show your out-of-town screencasts... and we may add a prize for the best-in-show.

If you are interested, please contact Alexis (alexis.mp at sun dot com).

GlassFish Day at JavaOne 2007
  Posted by pelegri in JavaOne

GlassFish at JavaOne

JavaOne 2007 is Tue-Fri (May 8 to 11th) at its usual location: Moscone Center in San Francisco. The Call For Papers is already open and this time there will be 11 Tracks, a bit more than usual.

The Monday of that week, May 7th, there will be several related events at the Moscone, and one of them will be a GlassFish Day that I will coordinate. I want to emphasize the role of the GlassFish Community but details are still very flexible so, if you have ideas, please post them to this blog entry or to this mail thread.
