Background to an Open Source Effort - A History of Sun's Portal Server

Sun's Portal Server will be open sourced in stages (announcement, Nav's Blog, Search TA). The process started with the creation of the Portal Community (closely associated with Project GlassFish) and the Portlet Repository and the team is actively preparing for the next stages in the near future.

Tom Mueller is the engineering lead for PS 7.0, so it is very nice to see his first blog on a History of PS. The last year has proven to many of us the value of blogging as a tool to stay connected with the community, so a very warm welcome to Tom - we hope to see many high quality blogs.
