Cuil today launched to much attention, not all positive; then Joyce Pointed me to SearchMe, and that prompted a pass through alternative search engines, collected below searching on "GlassFish". Of that batch, I agree with Joyce and I find SearchMe to be the most interesting one, although Google is still the most accurate. |
Sorted alphabetically:
• Altavista
• Ask.COM
• Cuil
• IceRocket
• LiveSearch
• PowerSet (only Wikipedia)
• SearchMe
• Yahoo
Any missing engines? Which do you like the best?

On a slightly different direction, the "search engine" that is changing most the way I use google is the embedded search on visited pages in FireFox. I used to use Google as a "memory aid", now I can more quickly and accurately just do the search in the Location Bar. Del.icio.us add-on tries to help with this type of thing but the implementation is lacking, but this general direction - through individuals or augmented through a group - seems very interesting. - eduard/o

My favorite during my teen years was Altavista. Bad decision destroyed it and now it's only another Yahoo search engine.
I use Google from the last 3 years
