Georg Fleischer at Fontys University has published a Report on the Continuous Integration. The 34-page report discusses the needs from users and how different products address them and provides good material for both users and tool authors. In total 12 products are discussed, including all the usual candidates. The methodology seems reasonable, although a bit Europe-heavy. Hudson comes up very well in the comparisons and it is #2 in adoption, close behind the much older CruiseControl project. |
Added - Also check Kohsuke's post on this topic, which includes a pointer to the CruiseControl downloads at Source Forge (live, snapsthot) that can be compared against Hudson's.
May be a odd question, but what does it mean in thsi context 'Europe-heavy' ???

Just that the sample used seems (in a quick skim) to have a large representation from Europe and may or not, apply to other geographic markets, like, say, the Chinese market.
I don't see info on the geographic distribution but the clues I'm using are that the survey letter was sent in english + german, Xing seems mostly a European site (or Europe + Turkey), the user groups seem to be in german, the "validation with a software company" was with somebody in the NLs. etc.

As I mentioned on Kohsuke's post the numbers for Hudson vs. CruiseControl are even more impressive if you consider that they didn't distinguish between CruiseControl Java, .NET and .rb.
But if you get past the CC/Hudson numbers I think the survey numbers are very good, at least not based on what I've seen at CITCON over the years.
