GlassFish Around the World - Geo Map
  Posted by pelegri in GlassFish

GlassFish downloads around Barcelona

My top 3 motivators for a software project are: quality, peer recognition and... adoption! Tracking adoption is hard but in GlassFish we can do something like PopCon by doing a reverse geo-lookup on the IPs from GF admin consoles as they retrieve the latest news. The result is a Map Mashup.

Click on the bottom left tags to switch between accumulated and monthly data. The "IP" labels represent installations, while "hits" count repeated GETs.

The data is not very precise: not everybody uses the console, proxies and fire-walls get in the way and the reverse lookup is at the ZIP level. Still, the data shows JFA's recent trip: pan/zoom to Brazil and flip between February and April.

And thanks to Jamey for the work!

Comments:

Very cool example of using the maps to see the impact of some specific event, Eduardo! Note that you can actually deep-link directly to specific views of the map (such as the Feb and April views you mention for Brazil). More info on this is available in my latest blog entry.
