My top 3 motivators for a software project are: quality, peer recognition and... adoption! Tracking adoption is hard but in GlassFish we can do something like PopCon by doing a reverse geo-lookup on the IPs from GF admin consoles as they retrieve the latest news. The result is a Map Mashup. Click on the bottom left tags to switch between accumulated and monthly data. The "IP" labels represent installations, while "hits" count repeated GETs. |
The data is not very precise: not everybody uses the console, proxies and fire-walls get in the way and the reverse lookup is at the ZIP level. Still, the data shows JFA's recent trip: pan/zoom to Brazil and flip between February and April.
And thanks to Jamey for the work!
