Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) is now available. This release includes GlassFish v1 as well as NetBeans 5.5, Java DB (Derby) and Java SE 6. This is a big milestone for all these technologies and, from the GlassFish community, our deep thanks to everybody involved! |

You can find my comments about this on my blog. A short one liner is that at the time we were integrating this, GlassFish V1 was fully tested and certified on JDK 5 and we did not want to introduce dependencies on JDK 6 as that had not yet run through our entire test suites. Also, given the short time frame for the release cycle - where JDK 6 packages and GlassFish were both trying to make it into the OS, we believed a reasonable approach was to depend on JDK 5. Subsequent releases should do away with this dependency.
Thanks
Harpreet
