ALT DESCR

We recorded 649,296 d/ls of GlassFish Server last month (192,776 SDK d/ls plus 456,520 Tools d/ls); about 28K downloads each day. More details, including a comparison with JBoss's public numbers, in my note.

The adoption for GlassFish is going very well and follows the model described by Jonathan ([1], [2, [3]). You can read about some of our Adoption Stories, or drop by EBC or elsewhere, for more details.

Comments:

It is unfortunate, you are competing with JBOSS, where there is bigger market if you compete with IIS. I believe, GlassFish has many competitive features, using which you can dare to compete with IIS.

Mind well, these are the customers who already has budget or can get budget to spend on GlassFish support.

Our largest market is Java-based AppServers and many of our sales are enterprises moving away from WebSphere and WebLogic. I list JBoss downloads because not too long ago many people were surprised when I mentioned to them that the GF d/ls were so many more than JBoss and because the JBoss numbers are readily available, but, revenue-wise, the large majority of the new revenue is from WLS and WAS conversions.

Now, back to IIS. If you have any specific insight on how to go after them, would love to hear about it. I agree those are users/customers that would be interesting to convert to GlassFish. Even annecdotal information would be interesting.

thanks, - eduard/o

(When) Will the newer (post-b28) builds of Glassfish V3 be bundeled with Netbeans?

Even the latest trunk snapshots of Netbeans offer only the b28 version.

Ivan: If you follow the steps (http://blogs.sun.com/vkraemer/date/20090212) you can register or even download a v3 latest promoted build from NetBeans 6.7 M2 or NetBeans latest trunk snapshots.
Bunlding will happen after 6.7 when v3 is more done. EE 6 spec features keep popup up every week.
