The latest version of the J2EE 1.4 SDK was released late last week. The SDK includes Sun Application Server 8.2 Platform Edition and is free for development and production use - that's the same App Server included in Sun Studio Creator and NetBeans.
A reader on TSS asked "So What", fair point - yes this is J2EE 1.4 and much of the interest today is around Java EE 5. Well, here are a couple of reasons : it includes a production quality impementation of Fast Infoset (think gzipped SOAP) : a resource adapter for foreign JMS providers, performance enhancements and now bundles with Derby DB. Also take a look at some of the new AJAX samples in the new J2EE Blueprints catalogs.
