Latest GlassFish Production Story - Bauer Systems
  Posted by alexismp in GlassFish

Bauer Systems is the most recent entry on our "Stories" blog. This well established German online and print media company has invested significantly in the GlassFish application server, with "transparent roadmap" as one of its deciding factor. They use many different technologies in the product (EJBs, Web Services, JMS, ...) and, as Norbert Seekircher Lead Software Architect at Bauer Systems, puts it - "we are using GlassFish as the container for all our current Java EE development".

What's interesting about this customer is that it's illustrating what I think is a tendency with customers moving from a tactical use to a strategic use of GlassFish. It's no longer chosen for a specific product but more as a founding technology for numerous enterprise applications.

We will soon expand this "Stories" blog to other open source software technologies from Sun. If you are using OpenMQ, OpenESB, OpenPortal, or any other such products in production, we'd love it if you could share your experience with the rest of the community. Please ping us at "stories @ sun.com".

Comments:

It is really a good news. But lot of commercial products esp in SOA side, for supporting JBoss, Websphere, Weblogic etc but not Glassfish yet. Do you have any collaboration in this front to make tools/components available for Glassfish platform? If you guys able to hit this happen, you will ultimately land in most of the heavy weight enterprise customers.

Some of the ISVs are already supporting GlassFish server, some are in the process, some are not yet there. We are working from all directions; if you send us your top needs we can use that to help our prioritization efforts.

Long term, the download and adoption numbers are on our side. Check out [1] for d/ls (includes JBoss comparisons); the user base is harder to count but the UpdateCenter auto-ping + the UID from the ServiceTag can be used - I just completed counting, and we have +300K unique Ids since April'08. The numbers are on our side.

Hi Senthilkumar-

Sun is working to promote ISV's that support GlassFish. For the current list, visit http://sun.com/glassfishpartners. Not everyone has come forward yet, but we're trying to get them on board!

+1 to Eduardo's suggestion that you send your prioritized list (and, 弓弩, we'll have a look at yours too). We want to focus our recruitment on the most relevant ISV's.

Thanks for your support-
