PreAnnouncing new GlassFish Subproject for JSP
  Posted by pelegri in GlassFish

JSP Duke

The GlassFish community is composed of many projects; some already existed when we started GlassFish, like JSF, JAXB and JAX-WS (nee JAX-RPC). Others came later but were separate from the beginning, like Jersey, and others spawned from GlassFish like Grizzly.

Separate projects encourate reuse and contributions but are more work and can create confusion so we wait before creating them. We have received several requests for a JSP project so we are going to create one. Please let me know (or just post here) if you are interested in this project.

BTW, I found the JSP Duke in the April, 2000 JSP 1.1_a errata. Two other early serving dukes are here and here

What the goal for this subproject? Advancing JSP as JSP, advancing JSP (as is) within GF, or simply working with JSP and any GF specific bits that can help ti.

All of the above?

We want GlassFish to have outstanding (the best!) JSP support; that is pretty straight-forward, all implementations want to be the best. In some cases this may mean implementing features not defined by the spec - that is fine as long as we do not conflict with the spec. We also want (like other GF projects) to encourage reuse of the implementation; this is made easier by our dual GPLv2+CPE and CDDL licensing. We also want to explore new features that could make it into a future JSP spec, and being the Reference Implementation may help.

None of this is really new, but being a separate project makes it much more practical than when the JSP implementation is intertwined with the rest of GlassFish.
