How GlassFish Can Save you $$s... - Microsoft Office Excel and Metro
  Posted by pelegri in GlassFish

Excel Snapshot

This scenario is based on a real-life case...

Customer wants to replace some expensive custom client and MQ infrastructure with an off-the-shelf Excel SpreadSheet talking back to the Server using reliable messaging...

I passed this on to Arun who put together a demo for JavaOne using Metro from GlassFish. He has now published full details here.

This type of example is going to be more important as the adoption of Vista spreads with the release of SP1. Depending on your requirements, an arrangement like this could save you a lot of money, and the support prices for GlassFish v2 (aka SJS AS 9.1) will be very affordable, so, no risk involved :-)

Just one question -

Why are you guys so fixated on putting Microsoft out of business?

59.145.143.53, this is not about putting Microsoft out of business, it's about Sun making money.

Hi 59.145.143.53 - There is no "MS out of business" side in this story. The original configuration did _not_ use MS's software; the new one uses MS's Office on the client side and GlassFish on the server. It is a win-win for Sun _and_ Microsoft. - eduard/o
