re: anonymous - You are right, there a sentence in Max's note where he was talking about convenience of Java-based tools. The same sentence mentions OpenMQ and I misread it. Max only mentions "stability" and "robustness" as reasons for the switch.

BTW the only reason Max found instability with ActiveMQ was he was using an old version AFAIK...

Hi James. Max did indicate he initially used ActiveMQ 4.x, but his last comment ([1]) mentions they also tried ActiveMQ 5.x and he points to [2].

Can I make a suggestion? When it comes to scalability, no one beats Joyent. Just look what they did for LinkedIn's Bumper Sticker app for Facebook. They easily scaled to over 1 billion page views a month. They are the most robust and stable cloud computing you will find and they just happen to be the official host of Ruby on Rails.
