the first result of our
OpenStorage initiative.

Mike's summarizes the architectural approach behind the new systems this way: There are three things that will be at the core of everything we do: a true software architecture for Flash, the Hybrid Storage Pool; users empowered with real-time Analytics so you can finally understand what your box is doing and how to make it better; and an open, industry-standard architecture: open on-disk formats, open protocols, and a compute and i/o architecture with volume economics behind it that doubles in speed and capacity every 12-18 months. |
The initial Press Coverage press coverage is very positive. I believe that despite, or perhaps because of?, the worldwide financial situation, these systems will have a deep impact in the market; try it out, and tell us what you think!
I wish this post would have had something directly to do with glassfish - why not announce random Sun product releases on the "random sun releases blog" instead of here? I have enough junk to plough through in a day, and I'm a software developer interested in glassfish, not an IT admin interested in new NAS products.

The largest topic area covered in this blog is GlassFish, by far, but I occasionally cover other topics: sometimes we inject personal comments, news on cool / geeky technologies, key events related to my work environment. I limit those postings, either in frequency or by including them in the NOTD posts.
The Amber Road launch meets several of the above points: I think it is cool and geeky, I believe it will impact the overall IT industry, it is led by people I personally know, and it impacts my work environment. Over the years, I've done similar announcements in the past for things like Thumper, Blackbox, T1 and T2, Magnum.
All that said, I very much appreciate and encourage feedback on the blog content.

And if I understand correctly the technology, you should be able to install a GlassFish Application server inside your Disks system, close to your database or your data....
Am I right?
