One of the responsibilities of the lead of a JCP Expert Group is to deliver a Specification, a TCK and a Reference Implementation, which may be just proof-of-concept or production-quality implementations like GlassFish. As the lead for the Java EE 5 Platform Sun needs to deliver the RI and to do that we require contributors to Project GlassFish to sign a Contribution Agreement that gives Sun shared copyright on your bug fixes, patches, and improvements.

The SCA can be signed in different ways; we usually get them as scanned images (instructions), but we are taking advantage of JavaOne to do a signature drive. If you are attending JavaOne we encourage you to drop by booth 706 or by our Community Meeting and sign it; I believe we have appreciation shirts :-)

BTW, I believe this arrangement is quite similar to what Apache asks nowadays from committers.
