Rimuhosting now Supports GlassFish. Their application came just a bit too late to make it into the formal GlassFish Partner Showcase but they will be added early next week, when we are all back from JavaOne.

WebAppCabaret - More GlassFish Hosting
  Posted by pelegri in GlassFish

ALT DESCR

WebAppCabaret now provides support for GlassFish. Check out the Private JVM or the VPS offering - the GF-specific page is here.

I am collecting a list of hosting providers that support GlassFish. Please let me know if you are such a hosting provider and we will advertise it.

And, if you let me contact me ASAP, I might still be able to list you in my slides for our CommunityOne KickOff Session.

eApps - Now Offering GlassFish Hosting
  Posted by pelegri in GlassFish

eApps Logo

A while ago we had a thread on Where to Host Java Apps. Several people suggested using Virtual Private Servers (VPS) (Wikipedia) and mentioned that some vendors already supported GlassFish and others were getting ready to do so... and eApps just did that.

eApps's VPS solution uses Virtuzzo (from Parallels) and is described in detail here. The details for GlassFish Support and the pricing/features seem quite good. Check it out and post your experiences.

And, if let us know of other hosting solutions for GlassFish we will mention them here too.

Where to Host Java Apps...
  Posted by pelegri in General

The JSP Duke

Dru is raising the often repeated question of Hosting Java Apps.

I'm interested in what people are doing today, so I'd encourage you to check his note and post your thoughts there, or here. I'll summarize the answers / comments here for convenience, grouped by origin.

Added - Please keep posting leads and experiences; this will be very useful.

The following are Comments in Dru's blog:

• Dru mentions GoDaddy has Tomcat, but they restart all TCs daily.
• Cay points out that Java Hosting would support Java teaching.
• Ryan suggests GFv3 will be useful, but that hosting has specific admin needs.
• Kumar uses virtual servers at GoDaddy.
• smayzak suggests Kattare.COM (but only has TC, Resin & JBoss, no GF)
• mbosch suggests VPS with Virtualization and mentions Rimuhosting.
ccombs recommends virtual servers through eapps.com (soon w/ GF).
• jwynacht has been using AOIndustries.
• straun had collected jHosts but now recommends RimuHosting for VPS and dedicated.
• Arvind also recommends RimuHosting.
• hchaudh1 provides another recommendation for eapps.com.

On this spotlight, we have these comments:

• Lars suggests dedicated servers - he mentions [1], [2] or VPS - no names yet.

Reduce your Bandwidth Usage by Half, and other Reasons to Upgrade to GlassFish version 2
  Posted by alexismp in GlassFish

Get yourself an upgrade!

Upgrading can be troublesome and human being are reluctant to change by nature, but sometimes it's just too good to miss out. Glen Smith is reporting why and how HTTP Compression Support and much improved virtual domains made the difference for him.

If you're concerned with preserving your GlassFish configuration, you should read Shalini's GlassFish upgrade story.

Other new GlassFish v2 Web Container features (Comet, WebDAV, SSL non-blocking nio, Asynchronous Request Processing and a lot more) are listed here. While Grizzly and more generally the Web Container have had substantial improvements, Clustering is probably the most important new feature in GlassFish version 2.

Whatever your favorite feature, make sure you try the beta version and report your experience.

Joyent - GlassFish Hosting Here
  Posted by pelegri in GlassFish

Joyent Cover Page

Joyent is an interesting company that provides traditional Web Hosting but also Web 2.0 applications as well as on-demand computing. Joyent seems to use OpenSolaris so perhaps it is not too surprising to read John's report from the JavaOne floor that they are offering GlassFish hosting.

One more indication of the adoption of GlassFish; this year's JavaOne is full of them...

Virtual Hosting Facilities in GlassFish v2

Photo of a Sun Blade 8000

Jan and the Web Tier team have been adding a number of very useful features for virtual hosting to GlassFish v2. Virtual Hosting is very convenient even in the small, but it is a must for ISPs and ASPs.

Features include Isolation Levels, Root Context Configuration, Alternate DocRoots, Security and Dynamic Reconfiguration. Jan covers all of these in his very detailed blog; check it out.

BTW, I've been busy elsewhere in the last few days (including almost 2 days here) and I have a big backlog; I'll try to catch up in the next few days before the Holiday break arrives.
