Nuxeo ECM - This Week's GlassFish Webinar
  Posted by pelegri in GlassFish

ALT DESCR

This week's webinar is on Nuxeo ECM, the Open Source ECM. Stefane will provide details on Nuxeo 5.2 (release/en, release/fr) and will discuss how to build scalable content management applications using OSS JavaEE technologies and sample use cases. Stefane will also describe the plans for Nuxeo 6.0

Nuxeo 5.2 is available with GFv3 Embedded (in addition to Jetty and JBoss) and is a good example of how the architecture of GFv3 extends the applicability of GlassFish into new markets.

Presentation on Thursday, March 26th, 11am US Pacific, at TheAquarium Channel. Full details (and recordings) at the Show Page.

A compilation of today's news of interest:

Kohsuke just returned from his Trip to Brazil but he is leaving again, this time to Japan. He will be a keynote speaker at the Japan Java Users Group, see Schedule (translation) and Speakers (translation). Check out KK's announcement and let him know if you want to get in his schedule.

SocialSite has released it first milestone - see SocialSite Milestone 1, check out the Community Site, the Download, or Related Posts. Thanks to Bobby for the tip.

More Grizzly Power! JFA writes about how to use Grizzly to provide Protection from Rogue Web Apps (no, not that Rogue) through priority response queues.

Pat writes about how to use OpenSSO to provide integration with Sun Global Desktop. OpenSSO has been gaining visibility recently (see Google Trends) specially after the Launch of OpenSSO Enterprise earlier this week.

More GlassFish v3 adoption, even before it releases: Eric Barroca, the CEO of Nuxeo, the open source ECM system, reports in an interview at OpenSource ECM.fr about their plans for supporting it.

Nuxeo logo

The Nuxeo ECM (Enterprise Content Management) which was previously reported as moving from Python to Java has recently reached version 5.1 after several milestone releases.

The News and Noteworthy document explains that the Nuxeo Core and Runtime now support GlassFish v2. There's still ways to go for the entire Nuxeo solution to be supported on GlassFish out of the box, but the trend is looking good!

Nuxeo and GlassFish

Logo of Nuxeo 5

Nuxeo 5 is a customizable and extensible open source framework for ECM applications. We mentioned Nuxeo some months ago when they Switched to Java EE 5. At that point, Nuxeo was only using JBoss but this last week, during JavaOne, Nuxeo released Nuxeo 5.1 M2 which is the first release for GlassFish (announcement, blog)

Nuxeo 5.1. M2 is only partially converted to GlassFish (v2), but we're looking forward for that "Partially" to become "Fully" and for Nuxeo to join the growing party...

Which is a Better Language? Python or Java? - Nuxeo5 and Java EE
  Posted by pelegri in GlassFish

A Drawing of the Tower of Babel with names of Programming Languages on it

"Which is the better language?..." Wrong Question!. One cannot compare languages as diverse as AWK, APL, Snobol, Prolog, Fortran, Lisp, Python, Java, PHP, and Many Others. More appropriate questions are "Which language I like best?", or, even better, "Which is the best language for my team to accomplish this tast within these constraints?". And, with that introduction...

Nuxeo is an Open Source company that has a popular Enterprise Content Management. This product was initially developed in Python but they just Annouced a Switch to Java EE. It is not that they do no longer like Python; just that Java EE made more sense for them in their context.

If you are interested in programming languages there are a number of fun links out in the web including the Online History of Programming Languages, a nice Graphical Timeline, several articles in Wikipedia, including a List of Programming Languages, and this fun presentation by Dick Gabriel and Guy Steele on the Lisp Family. And don't tell me I missed your favorite language; that is the whole point of this blog! :-)
