Just released -- Java Tutorials update

To coincide with the JDK7 Preview Release and JavaOne, we have just published an updated version of the Java Tutorials. Besides fixing many typos and errors that you have reported, this release includes:

  • An entirely reworked File I/O lesson, featuring NIO.2. This functionality is part of JDK7, which is available now through the Open JDK project on java.net.
  • A new specialized trail covering Sockets Direct Protocol, also new in JDK7.
  • A new facility for gathering feedback about the tutorial. At the bottom of each tutorial page, under the "Discuss" heading, you can leave a publicly viewable, blog-style comment. Let us know what you think about the inclusion of this JS-Kit mechanism.

Thanks, as always, for your feedback. It helps us improve the tutorial!

Hi Sharon,

Would it be OK (I mean respective of licensing issues) to build a Netbeans plugin that contains the zipped java tutorial and provides easy access to it from within the IDE even when off-line ??

Thanks,

Daniel

Hi Sharon,

Thanks for the great effort. It seems that the folder "JavaBeans" is missing in the zip file (tutorial-2009_05_27.zip).

Could you please add the corresponding files?

Thank you very much.

Daniel, would this be a product you are selling? If so, probably not. You can see the tutorial license here:
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/information/license.txt

Here are the restrictions, from the license:
3 RESTRICTIONS.
3.1 No license under this Agreement is granted to Licensee for any purpose not specifically set forth in Section 2 (Limited Licenses) of this Agreement. Except as otherwise provided by law, Licensee is not authorized to transfer the Licensed Work to any third party for use in commercial or development activities.
3.2 Licensee shall have no right to use the Licensed Work for commercial uses or in a production environment.
3.3 Licensee may copy and use the number of copies of Licensed Work and make additional copies necessary for the Permitted Use, provided that Licensee reproduces all copyright and other notices appearing on or in the Licensed Work on any such copy.
3.4 Except as expressly provided in Section 2 ("Limited Licenses") of this Agreement, no right, title, or interest in or to the Licensed Work or any Sun Trademarks is granted under this Agreement. Sun retains all right, title and interest, including associated Intellectual Property Rights, in and to the Licensed Work, any Sun Trademarks, and any modifications, improvements or enhancements to the Licensed Work.
3.5 Portions of Licensed Work may be provided with notices and open source licenses from communities and third parties that govern the use of those portions, and any licenses granted hereunder do not alter any rights and obligations Licensee may have under such open source licenses, however, the disclaimer of warranty and limitation of liability provisions in this Agreement will apply to all Licensed Work.

Ming, did you download that file after 7/14? It was missing some files and I put a new one out on that date. If you do a fresh download, you should get all the files. (I just did a fresh download and checked and it looks fine.)
